| Chess club organized by Marmaris municipality holds chess tournaments each week to prepare for the national and international tournaments that are held throughout the tourist season from
April until November. |

| This year the chess tournament was held 18 - 24 August 2002 at the Munamar Hotel, Icmeler. The chess players participated from around the world, particularly Erik Van den Doel (the
Netherlands), Vladimir Burmakin (Russia), Tim Upton (Scotland), Pedram Atoofi (Iran). |
