| Registering a birth in Turkey
|
If your child is born in Turkey you can register the birth with the
nearest consulate. You don’t have to do this, but if you do your
child will be given a British style birth certificate and the birth
will be registered at the General Registry Office in the UK.
What documents do we need to provide?
To register a birth you will need to provide:
• hospital report
• child’s civil Turkish birth certificate ( Formul A or Turkish ID
card )
• British Passport of British parent ( s )
• the FULL British birth certificate (or Home office naturalisation
or registration certificate if born outside of the UK) of British
parent(s)
• the passport or ID card of non-British parent if applicable
• parents’ marriage certificate
• divorce decree if either parent has been married before
(A copy of your full British birth certificate can be obtained from
the General Register Office.
Application to register an overseas birth
If you and your spouse are not married
If you are a British man and your child’s mother is foreign you can
only apply for a Consular birth registration of the child was born
on or after 1 July 2006. If you are an unmarried women who’s had a
child abroad and you would like the father’s details recorded on the
certificate, you will need to swear Statutory Paternity
Declarations.

• Birth Certificate £63
• Passport for Child under 16 £79
Fees are payable by credit card or in cash. Credit card payments
will be charged in Sterling regardless of the country of issue. Cash
payments will be accepted in Turkish Lira only and charged at the
Consular rate of exchange applicable on the day of application.
After March of the year following the registration copies can be
obtained from the General Register Office.
