Is there a fire near Marmaris?

As the wildfire season in Turkey continues, and with the safety of our residents and visitors our top priority, MarmarisInfo continues to notify about most recent wildfires in our area based on the local, county, and state resources to help effectively monitor ongoing wildfire activity, and track air quality. The current wildfire in Datca Peninsula threatens biodiversity including the sandalwood, wild pistachio, mastic trees, olive trees, and animal species like wild goats, caracals (Karakulak) and grizzly bears. The wildfire has continued in Betce in Datca peninsula. This part of Datca Peninsula is the most virgin part inhabited by wild goats, caracals (Karakulak) and grizzly bear. In case the fire moved to the highest mountain Kocadağ 1162m we are facing extinction of these species, says Dr Yasin İlemin who has been working in the area for 15 years. Marmaris is on the way to becoming a Ghost Town

Marmaris is on the way to becoming a Ghost Town Very sad and eeries sights of Marmaris afternoons: the streets are deserted after new rules come into affect. The local authorities went ahead and banned beach access in Marmaris and Icmeler. Police are enforcing this ban with fines of 400 TL for breaking the rule.So this is the second week when we are not able to pack up from home and walk or drive to the beach for a change of scene. People are only allowed to walk or drive ALONE for shopping and essential needs. Everyone should wear a mask and maintain two meters distance from others. Public transportation drivers and passengers in Marmaris including buses, minibuses, dolmus, taxi are enforced to wear masks. All public transportation must be disinfected regularly as required. From 1 June – 1 July 2021 Weekend curfew continues from 22:00 Saturday to 05:00 Monday.Weekdays curfew continues from 22:00 to 05:00. Lockdown restrictions for citizens and residents aged 65 and over and under 18:No restrictions will be imposed on citizens and residents of 65 years old and older for those who have received two doses of the vaccine Citizens and residents of 65 years and older who have not been vaccinated with two doses are allowed to go out on weekdays from 10:00 until 14:00. Restrictions for children and young people under the age of 18 are lifted. All non-essential retail are open from 07:00 – 20:00 daily Shopping malls are open. However, the sale of electronics, toys, stationery, clothing and accessories, alcohol, home textiles, auto accessories, garden supplies, hardware, glassware is not allowed on Sundays. Will Marmaris International Culture & Arts Festival be going ahead?

Unfortunately with the continuing wildfire in Bordubet Marmaris the Festival committee has just announced the cancellation and postponement of some of the concerts that were planned for the weekend. The reasons for cancelling and postponing the concerts given were physical and psychological conditions created by the wildfire. The concert of Bogazici Youth Choir scheduled for the 25th of June at Marmaris Amphitheatre and İlyas Mirzayev and Muğla Folk Symphony and MAKSAD Chamber Orchestra scheduled for the 28th of June at Marmaris Amphitheatre will be postponed to a later date in autumn. The new concert dates are yet to be announced by the Festival committee. The Children’s theatre that was planned for the 24th of June in Turgut has been cancelled. According to the Festival committee public health is the main priority.
