Deceptive calm in Marmaris Turkey

The wildfires in Marmaris and around Turkey continue to dominate the headlines in Turkey and around the world. Forest fires have always been a part of our history, however it has never been so widespread. It’s been five days since the wildfires broke out in Marmaris and Icmeler. The wildfires have spread along the coast, destroying the landmarks of nature and tourism. The tourists and locals were evacuated from Icmeler, Turunc and other areas affected by fire. The local community has provided the most rapid and generous response. Most of the local population spend sleepless nights and full days in extreme heat collecting sandwiches, iced water and other essentials for the firefighters and volunteer teams fighting against the fire up in the mountains and nearby villages. Marmaris Fires05/08/2021 Marmaris Fires. For the past 8 days Turkey has been fighting against the most catastrophic wildfires in history. The scale of it is escalating every single day… The wildfire in Amos (the bay next to Turunc) could not be put down and burned all night long. So did the area of Oren and all of Turkey held its breath as the fire moved towards the thermal power station. Thanks to the heroic actions of firefighters, rescue teams, rescue volunteers and local communities they stood firmly against fires last night and stopped it. The station did not burn last night. Where we are in Marmaris the resort and its hotels are safe and fully operating. Many of the hotels, apartments and villas in Marmaris have generously opened their doors to provide free accommodation to fire victims. We post about this on social media so its easier to follow. What you need to know about the 15th of July in Marmaris Turkey

Democracy and National Unity Day 15/07/2021 Turkey marked the 5 anniversary of the day of a failed coup attempt and the martyrs who died while protecting democracy against the coup plotters. July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day is an official holiday celebrated with Nationwide ceremonies. Major events took place in Marmaris and we have revisited this location to take photos. The coup plotters were able to target the best landing spots on this beach five years ago… As we were leaving the TV production team of the main national channel TRT have arrived to make a coverage from the same location. From fires to floods Icmeler, Marmaris

As the world marks the palindrome date associated with 22.02.2022 or a Twosday, today was not an ordinary Tuesday for the local community in Icmeler either. Heavy rainfall caused another flood around the resort in Icmeler. Unfortunately, this is not the first flood and the most devastating flood happened back in December. The local authorities are cleaning and performing all kind of maintenance around Icmeler. However, the area became prone to flooding as a result of wild forest fire in the summer and later clear-cuts or forest-felling when all of the trees were removed.
