Making the call

Local Calls

To call a number inside the city just dial the 7-digit telephone number directly.

Long Distance Calls

To call another city in Turkey find the 3-digit code you need and precede it with a 0, followed by the 7-digit phone number. The number should always start with a 0.

Operator Assisted Call

The special number 131 for local calls or 115 for international calls will take you to Türk Telekom’s operators. Register the desired telephone number and other details. Operator will place the call for you and will connect you to the desired number.

To make an international call from Turkey, dial 00 + Country Code + Area Code + Telephone Number.

A call from abroad to Turkey would have the same format. (Country Code of Turkey is 90). The area code for Mugla province that includes Marmaris, Icmeler, Turunc, Datca, Bodrum and Fethiye is 252. For example, to call Marmarisinfo.com office from abroad you would dial 00 90 252 4112051.

Using a Turkish mobile phone

To call another mobile just dial the 10-digit mobile number and precede it with a 0. To call a fixed line number in Turkey, precede it with a 0 and the code, then finish off with the subscriber number.

Roaming

To call a fixed line telephone in Turkey, use +90 followed by the city code and subscriber number. Calling a Turkish mobile is almost the same as from a fixed line telephone (see above), only you should dial the last ten numbers, preceded of course with +90.

Mobile Telephone

Roaming agreements exist with most international mobile phone companies. Before your departure from home check with your mobile company to activate international roaming services when you are abroad. Coverage is mostly good, but can be patchy in some rural areas. There are three mobile phone operators in Turkey and this prompts competition and constant development of better services, coverage and costs.

If you are panning an extended stay in Turkey be aware that foreign mobile telephones are ‘locked’ after about one month in the country. After a mobile telephone is ‘locked’ noone will be able to ‘unlock’ it again in Turkey. To avoid this problem you need to declare your GSM at the Customs upon arrival, if your stay will exceed 30 days.
