Marmaris January Newsletter

Dear Friends

this is the first-ever news from Marmaris this year! Marmaris had a rather wet New Year’s Eve, leaving our team without any chance of coming out to take the photos or videos on the New Year’s night. We did try to catch up with Marmaris photos and videos on our facebook and twitter pages later though. Marmaris hotels offered gala dinners, asking for a fortune anywhere from 300 to 200 Turkish lira per person… This helped us make a wise decision to stay in and celebrate around a table full of home cooked meals and desserts! Our dalmatian could not have asked for more, she was very happy to celebrate with us!

The next week was like a real winter. Turkish met office confirmed that it was the coldest week in 50 years!!! The thermometer went down to +3C degrees daytime and -3C degrees at night. Many Europeans would think we exaggerate to call this cold… However, Marmaris is not used and unprepared for this kind of weather. Heating comes in all kinds of forms and sources. Mostly on electricity be it air-conditioning, electrical heaters, electrical blankets or fireplaces. We had to dig out the winter wear we would wear in Europe on our winter holidays in the coldest months. Although Marmaris weather is always milder than Istanbul, Ankara or even Izmir that were covered in snow.

Marmaris must be happy about the rains that started today, as they bring much warmer weather and let us cut on heating costs… Check out more weather on
