Very sad and eeries sights of Marmaris afternoons: the streets are deserted after new rules come into affect. The local authorities went ahead and banned beach access in Marmaris and Icmeler. Police are enforcing this ban with fines of 400 TL for breaking the rule.
So this is the second week when we are not able to pack up from home and walk or drive to the beach for a change of scene. People are only allowed to walk or drive ALONE for shopping and essential needs. Everyone should wear a mask and maintain two meters distance from others.
Public transportation drivers and passengers in Marmaris including buses, minibuses, dolmus, taxi are enforced to wear masks. All public transportation must be disinfected regularly as required. (source : http://www.marmaris.gov.tr/kurumlar/marmaris.gov.tr/11042020075520004.pdf)
Any breach of new rules will mean new fines and having to stay in lockdown for longer.
Supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies, service stations, and access to essential banking services is still available throughout Turkey.
The 30 provinces in Turkey, namely Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Aydin, Balikesir, Bursa, Denizli, Diyarbakir, Erzurum, Eskisehir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Istanbul, Izmir, Kahramanmaras, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Malatya, Manisa, Mardin, Mersin, Mugla, Ordu, Sakarya, Samsun, Sanliurfa, Tekirdag, Trabzon Van and Zonguldak went into a full lockdown at 11.59pm on Friday April 10th 2020.
The lockdown was meant to save lives, if everyone reacted normally. When government told not to panic-buy, guess what, many people went ahead to storm the local convenience shops and petrol stations markets for drinks and snacks…
It all comes down to common sense but that’s what we lack.
Don’t put other people at risk because you think you have the right to go walking, jogging or wandering around. We are in this together: nobody is going anywhere in Marmaris.
It may seem like another case when the authorities in Marmaris are making up their own rules as they see fit. But common sense tells it is probably not.
Please stay safe and Marmarisinfo.com will keep you updated with any changes as they come to light.
