Maritime and Cabotage Day in Marmaris Turkey

Today the 01st of July is the Maritime and Cabotage Day in Turkey. Marmaris is once again full of events and competitions that are child – friendly and free!

This morning the Chamber of Shipping in Marmaris commemorated the day by wreath laying ceremony at the central square by Ataturk statue located on Marmaris harbour.

This afternoon the celebrations on Ataturk Square will continue following this activities plan:

16:00 – Lokma feast, lokma is similar to donuts, except it is much smaller in size. This is a tradition to deliver free lokma (donuts) to public;
17:00 – Folklore show;
17:20 – 18:00 Swimming competitions for children;
18:15 – Free ice-cream;
18:15 – Rope pulling competition;
18:30 – Dance show;
18:30 – 19:15 Wooden small boats competition
19:00 – Award ceremony

On a different note the Maritime and Shipping Exhibition is taking place from 01st to 05th of July in the Culture and Arts Hall in Marmaris (you can find it on google maps by Marmaris Belediyesi Kültür ve Sanat Evi). No admission is charged. The exhibition displays the model of the gulet ‘Hurriyet’ that sailed on the first Blue Cruise back in 1964, the vessel ‘Ugurlu’ that first sailed to Greek island of Rhodes built in 1956 and many boat models that sailed the bay of Marmaris, free of engines, just sailing back in those years.
