Merhaba!!! (= hello)
Tonight we (8 of us) have just been back from an unforgetable 15-days-Marmaris at Liman Apart-Otel.
Thanks for all information on this site, it was very very helpfull!!
Thanks to everybody who wrote on this message board and all the tips you gave.
Our thanks to all personel at Liman Apart-Otel for their friendliness, hospitality and taking good care of all of us and giving us the unforgetable vacation!!! It's a small family appartment-complex, clean, very very friendly and cheerful people, good kitchen and bar.
And our thanks to our Cook: Mehmet (we gave him a nickname: Koki) for the most delicious meals (from breakfast to diner). Try here if you want to have the best Turkish meals!
Also to our Bartender: Adem for all drinks and cocktails (especially his own recepie: Adam's Apple).
At last but not least thanks to Jalal for taking good care of the supplies.
Marmaris is just a beautiful place to be on vacation. It has everything for everybody.
There are a lot of shops in the bazaar or plaza's, big supermarkets (Tansas and Migros). All famous clothes, watches, etc are fake ones! Take a good look when you buy a cd, cd-rom, vcd or dvd. Most of them are copies (self-burned cd's). You'll finds restaurants everywhere, a long the boulevard or in small alleys. If you don't like Turkish kitchen, there are Chinese, Indian, Italian, Dutch, English, etc. Even fast food restaurants like Murundu Chicken, Burger King and McDonalds. Try "Efez", the best beer in Turkey. For the best filtered-coffee, capucino and cakes, try Kibris (along the boulevard). There are lots of small bars and cafe's. Try the Bar Street for big bars and discotheques for very good night life and good music.
Long clean beaches for them who like sun bathing. But you can also try the Aquaparks: Atlantis (old one) and Star (new one). They are almost next to each other. Both can easily reached by Dolmus (public minibus for TRL 500,000.00 for one trip).
There are lots of boat trips to beautiful beaches and bays. TIP: try "Josh is here". You can remark it by the yellow flag with "Josh is here" on it. Other remark: he does not pull people to book the trip. Josh (the captain) is a very cheerful person and he will give you a wonderful sail-day. He does what he promises!!! He speaks English very well and a bit Dutch. The trip costs NLG 25.00, including good (!) lunch. You can also do parasailing, diving, rafting, etc etc etc
There are lots of excursions in Marmaris and places near Marmaris. TIP: take the Dolmus to Kizkumu (about 20 minutes from Marmaris) and walk on the sea!!! You can hardly believe what you see. From there take the Dolmus again to Turgut. You'll see there small but beautiful waterfalls.
You can also go to the city of Mugla (speak out as Mula) by Dolmus (takes about 1 hour, costs TRL 1,500,000.00 one trip). On Thursdays there is a big market. We hired a minibus (as there were 8 of us) for 2 days (cost TRL 200 million) and went to Pamukale. TIP: next to the calcium stones/ rocks, there are ruines of the ancient city of Pamukale. Most travel agencies (even your tour operator) won't tell it. Visit it and it's really worthy. Beware that the trip takes about 4 to 5 hours from Marmaris. The next day we went to Efesus (in Turkish: Efez). The trip took about 3 to 4 hours, but it's really worth it. You MUST have seen it if you are in Turkey. TIP: try not to book the trips through your tour operator, but book it in Marmaris. There are a lot of travel agencies and it is much much cheaper!!!
Shortly: you don't have to get bored in Marmaris
On September 22, 2001: NLG 1 = TRL 620,000.00. TIP: change you money at Turkey Is Bankasi (highest rate, no commission). You'll find it along the boulevard. Or at the Post Office (2nd highest, no commission) or at Tansas supermarket (3rd highest, I don't know about the commission). When we arrived (September 8) was the exchange rate: NLG 1 = TRL 560,000.00. So check the rate every day!!!
Appartments, hotels and restaurants give you very low exchange rate
Take the Dolmus (public minibus). Good buses, it's easy and very cheap. In Marmaris costs one trip TRL 500,000.00. Outside Marmaris TRL 1,500,000.00.
Dalaman Airport is quite a big and modern airport (airconditined). When you arrive you must buy your visa first before passing the passport control-post. A visa  costs you NLG 20.00, pay with good small paper change, there's no return money. You'll get then your visa (a sticker) on your passport. Dalaman Airport has lots of duty free shops. Also bars and cafe's in case you get a delay.
Sunny and hot. When we were there, night temperature was app. 30 degrees Celcius. Highest day temperature was 48 degrees at 13:00 hours, in the sun. In the shadow it was much cooler
We're looking forward to the next vacation in Marmaris!!! We've already missed it now
Have a nice holiday for you all.. Greeting from IJsselstein, Holland
