VILLAGE TOUR
Boasting numerous bars and vibrant night-life, Marmaris can be anything but
traditional. Yet even in a place like Marmaris, ‘the traditional Turkey’ is not
as far away as you may think. Just venture an hour drive and travel back more
than a century in time.
Allow yourself to discover the simplicity of rural life and meet the local
people who will enchant you with their genuine hospitality.
This pastoral day starts with a break at an old mosque in Bayır Village where we
are welcomed by the priest of the mosque and informed about ritual customs.
While in Bayır village you can sample the local honey in the shade of the 2000
year old plane tree and if our visit is within term time, we pay a visit to the
local school and chat to some of the local children.
Our next stop is a lovely canyon with a 300 year old watermill and a refreshing
waterfall in the village of Turgut. After having lunch in an authentic
atmosphere we are hosted by a local family offering us apple and oregano teas in
their traditional house. A visit to the tranquil beach of Orhaniye tops off this
exceptional day.
