For a stay exceeding 3 (three) months a Residence Permit is necessary: formal application must be made to the police authorities of the providence in which the visitor is living, or to the Aliens Department of
the Police in Ankara if the visitor is not going to stay in any particular place in Turkey. British citizens who wish to settle or retire in Turkey must contact the Turkish Embassy in London well before their departure in order to obtain

Embassy > Investment in Turkey
Relevant information about investment in Turkey (e.g. in the tourism/leisure sector) is held by the Turkey Market Branch of the Department of Trade and Industry at Kingsgate House, 66-74 Victoria Street, London,
SWI. We advice prospective investors to contact Mr. Paul Griffiths on 071-215-5314. For further information, please read a booklet in English issued by the Undersecretariat of the Treasury and Foreign Trade, General Directorate of Foreign
Investments in Ankara. It is worth underlining here the fact that according to local regulations (see page 38, Article 12 of the booklet) the minimum investment required by a foreigner/ foreign company setting up in Turkey is US $50,000 or
its equivalent in foreign exchange. Those whishing to establish a business in Turkey would also be well advised to consult a Turkish lawyer who speaks English. Lists of such lawyers in Marmaris and Fethiye are published on this website.

Embassy > Purchase of Property in Turkey
British citizens are now allowed to buy property in Turkey, subject to the following conditions:
| 1) The property must be within the boundaries of a municipality (Belediye) and not within a village or rural area where
the found of authority is a Mukhtar (Headman) |
| 2) The property must be paid for in Turkish Lira derived from the sale or transfer of foreign currency to a Turkish bank |
| 3) Applications should be made to the District Land Registry office (Tapu Kadastro Mudurlugu) |
As for the repatriation of the proceeds from the sale of such a property, our understanding is that at present a British owner of such property, would be able to repatriate only the amount of foreign exchange
initially invested in the property; any profit from the sale would have to be retained in Turkey in Turkish Lira. We strongly advise, however, that prospective purchasers of property in Turkey should first consult a lawyer specialising in the
field.
